Any respose would be helpful. Im thinkink about removing my catalaytic converters andwas curious wit the mods I have doneif this will make the car run any different. I will however use the sensors for thecomputer to think the cats are still on. I have a 2001 six speed wth Haltech sidewinder cold air induction Ported throttle body, an getting ready to install some short headers. Iwill install the headers first, before remove the cats. How loud is the car without the cats? Is it annoying loud? Thanks for the responses
Re: Removing my catalyatic converter (FUELISH2001)
I did it this weekend. The car actually got quiter. B&B headers combined with thier touring exhaust caused resonance at highway speeds, but with out the cats and with the X pipe the resonance totally disappeared at 1600 rpms on the interstate it is quiet as stock, but around town above 2000-2500 rpms it sounds very throaty and aggressive. The X also elimitated popping on deceleration by about 50 percent. No odor at all.
I think th e O2 sims sending a clean signal has allowed the ECM to send more fuel thereby eliminating the lean condition that exists with alot of cars with aftermarket intakes. Overall one of my favorite mods. I would suggest a touring exhaust system otherwise it may get loud
I love the power... You can feel and in fact you see it in my Dyno, I picked up about 20rwtq down low. As to the smell... well thats the down side, its not so much a fuel smell, its more like a car with no cats smell. Which I kinda like because it reminds me of some 70's muscle cars I always admired. However my girlfreind is not too fond of it; she calls it "eau de' octane". I think when I get some long tubes I will probably drop the money on some hi-flow cats. But if you want a great bang for buck mod this one is hard to beat in terms of $/hp ratio.
I tried this mod before (on an f-body) and ended up just getting a high flow cat. The stench and the noise was just too much for the little gain you get. The smell was what convinced me never to do that again! IMO, because of the lean burn of modern cars, it smells nothing like the old muscle cars of the 60's/70's. It smells more like you stuck your head in a barrel of hydrochloric acid and took a breath.

Re: Removing my catalyatic converter (FUELISH2001)
I just removed mine temporarily for the drags (haven't tested yet at track) and now have straight pipe coming out of my TPIS longtubes and into PRTs and this beast sounds very radical know. Definitely noticably louder and I can also feel what I suspect to be about an additional 20 rwtq coming off my launch :smash: Smell don't bother me at all but then again I am pretty hardcore about this stuff. Can't say the wife likes the sound however:D I am definitely aware of the increased sound and when on busy streets are on my best behavior as the MAN IS LURKING out there, especially when he hears you coming. :mad
I say check it out and remove them in such a way that you can easily reinstall if they are too radical for you.

I wonder what the long term affects of "smelling" that stuff is?
