yeah GM sells the crate motor for a good price, but have never heard of anybody installing them in a C5. You probably can if you are willing to spend GOBS of money custom fabing stuff. I just do not see it fitting between the frame rails....

It fits.... but sorry, it is a 496, not a 502 , I called the Corvette Shop % Larry.....to get the info...sorry... but, I have seen it in a C5!....
I have previously posted some time back that HOT ROD magazine had a small piece on a shop that did install a 502 in a C5. From the article (and picture) they had to modify the hood, the EFI only. I didn't take the time to check the archives for the specific info.
Bruce, forget a 502, that would be a total hack. If you _really_ want some power, to the tune of 500rwhp NA, give MMS a call. ;) Personally with your N2O I'd just do a mild set of heads/cam (218 cam, stage 1 heads), long tube headers, and some 16" et streets. Hello 10s! ;)

Thanks for the info, Terry.... your very informative.
But where can I get 16" wheels that fit the C5?
Do you have any info on the cost of this swap? I don't see why you couldn't fit a 502 if you can fit the 496. The 496 is just a stroked 454 right?
If you have any info, please share it with the group. Does this conversion allow the use of all/most of the stock accessories?
Thanks.
Please call Larry at "The Corvette Shop" in San Diego, Ca.
He is the man! I am just an outsider on this one.
Larry can give you the details.

I have a 540 setting in my garage. I can't even imagine what the ride would be like in my C5 with this monster. Oh well--it doesn't hurt to dream a little  But I'm sure the car would have too many problems plus emmissions problems. Still might call the boys in San Deigo just to ask?? :seeya
I have a 500 mi 2001 8.1(496) complete, stock 340hp and I think 455 ft/lbs big block complete with the whole fuel injection and Thottle body let me know if you want to try it, e-mail me at indacalinc@mediaone.net if you interested new these are $7,000 I can do this one for about $2,500
