Anyone tackled this one in their garage? Service Manual indicates an indexing tool is required to complete this job.
Backup lamps light in courtesy mode (with the keyfob) but not when the car is in reverse. Also, electrochromatic rear view mirrors don't work (won't dim the glare from approaching vehicles.)
Fuses/relays/switches that I can easily access have been tested, swapped or replaced so I think the switch on my automatic transmission is the last piece of the puzzle.

No, but I am interested in getting into the shift indicator section of console. My A4 gear indicator broke or came loose and is not stuck in D1 position. It does not affect the operation of the car...just annoying.

Hah! Well thanks for the bump! Yes that would be annoying.
The MN6 guys have it easy - a little screw in switch on the side of the tranny. Piece of cake to swap out. The Automatics have the darned linkage attached to the switch. I'm tempted to take the job on but I dont want to end up needing a tow from my garage!
