This is going to sound really stupid but today while in the process of putting on my C6 Z51 rotors and pads on my C5 Z06 I "accidently" blew one of my pistons out of the front caliper.
Without getting into what happened...it was a really dumb mistake. Brake fluid started pouring out of the piston that popped out. I opened up the bleeder and pushed the piston back in. My buddy says it shouldn't be a problem and that with the piston pushed back in it should be ok.
Anyone know if this caliper is ruined now and needs a rebuild? I am so mad right now. I have never had a problem doing brakes before hahah.
I would put it back together and bleed the brakes. If there are nofluid leaks and no air showing you are good to go
Yea that is what I am hoping. I just didn't know if it was a given to rebuild. I don't want to rebuild it but I don't want to put it on either and find out its bad. I guess I am just wishing it to be fine...its been a bad day working on the Z, I broke my torque wrench, the caliper and some other issues..murphys law, what can go wrong will go wrong.
Don't worry about it. Examine the piston surface to make sure that there were no scratches etc. on the outer surface. The dust boot should be seated properly in the caliper and slowly push the piston back in the bore. Make sure that the piston has some brake fluid around the perimeter for lubrication. Bleed them out and you should be fine.
