I was launching my car today and I got a lot of wheel hop that seemed to hit real hard. Now, I have a noise coming from the rear that sounds pretty loud like a groaning/whirring/droning noise that is prominently heard in 5th and 6th gear. I can feel the vibrations in the shifter.
I have a DTE brace and I have taken the wheels off to see if anything is bent, loose, or cracked and I cannot see anything. The only thing that I see that I did not previously notice is a little leak where the torque tube bolts up to the transmission.
Any ideas on where to start diagnosing this problem?
When I hear people talk about "moan and drone" from the rear, it always seems to be limited slip differential problems. Seems like vibration or feel could come through trans and shifter. Any louder or more pronounced while turning? If so, look there.
The noise doesn't seem to be more pronounced when turning, but I think you are on the right track because I'm not sure if the axle hop would would transfer all the way to the torque tube bushings. I am hoping to find someone here in town that would have a little experience with these rear ends.
