Anyone Had Success With Hypertech Power Programming?
I picked up a Hypertech Power Programmer III and really like being able to tweak fan turn-on temps, shift points, shift firmness, etc.
Now, I have no intention of changing out my thermostat. If I select the second option, manually selected Power Tuning, NOT the first option that inserts power tuning and adjusts rev limiter. shift points, etc, etc, by itself, will I see any benefit? I have heard that low and mid-range torque will increase with only a slight increase in power at the upper end. I have also heard of pinging with the power tuning due to too aggressive of a timing increase. Any experiences out there with this thing? I have a 2000 A4 with the 3.15 axle. Thanks!
Ed

I used the Hypertech on my 99 A4 and you could feel the difference on the lower end. Ran much better. I also used it on my 99 T/A A4 and now the tires squeel at 1-2 and 2-3 shifts.
Does anyone know if they make one for a 2002??????

I took mine to the track and ran it 3 times with the programmer and 3 times without. All other variables remained the same. It ran consistantly slower with the programmer installed. Take that to the bank. :cuss

joel,
i wouldn't hold my breath. join the club, still waiting for one that will work with a 2001. since i have a manual the powerloader is a waste of money for me. probably will be next fall before one becomes available. may have to bite the bullet and try out a superchips.

I think I would rather just wait until Hypertech comes out with new ones for our cars. I like programing my car myself rather than a preconfigured chip.

Dittos on that!
Hint to Hypertech manufacturer... do the 2002 at the same time you do the 2001. The PCM's are so very close to one another (between these two years) that once you have the 2001 knocked out, you may only have to spend 30 more minutes to get the 2002 finalized; plus you'll sell a Hypertech 2002 to me!!!!

The tuning doesnt really make much difference, but since you have an auto, your best choice is changing the shift points and adjusting the rev limiter. I got 3 tenths out of mine on the track.

I had it on my 97 for a while. The dyno showed that with it installed and the fan controller set to keep the temp at 200 degrees I had 298 RWHP with the car completely stock and water temp at 225 I had 296 RWHP. Not really worth the cost of the unit. The DynoJet is only accurate to 1% so you are talking plus or minus 3 horsepower between runs at the outside. Two horsepower could be the normal variation between runs.

The power programming worked out nicely for me. I didn't see any peak power difference. I had 2.73s at the time so I spent a lot of time in the low rpm range. I made a consistant 2 tenths that was reproduced several times. It worked out well. After a while 300 bucks for 2 tenths ain't bad. It's probably not worth it on an M6 or a heavily modded car. I wish the ls1 edit would get here.
