When I bought my 2000 vert with 38,000 miles I almost passed on it. I bought it from a very good small exotic car dealer in Houston and although the car was perfect with very well documented service records, the engine TICKED!! When I told him I was going to pass, he said most C5's he'd owned/sold all ticked to some degree. He then started 3 other low milage C5's on his lot and guess what? THEY TICKED!!! I bought the car, now have 62,000 miles on it and it runs great and doesn't give me any problems. I've read and heard a lot about fuel injector ticking and if it's not that, then I believe it's the lifters. After all, it's a Chevy V8!!!!! My advice, forget about it unless it gets louder or changes in some way and enjoy your fine car.

Mine does the same thing on cold starts then goes away. Do I worry about it? Hell no.
Quickshift, Your ticking noise was what happened to my C5. I complained to the Dealer and a local GM Zone Manager and had the pistons and rings replaced. It was piston slap.

I can't imagine how much that would cost go get done.
Belt is in absolutely perfect condition. At least that is what I have been seeing every time I've checked it. It sounds like it's coming from directly underneath the valve covers.
I'm getting a squealing noise from my belt now, but that just started a few months ago. As I mentioned, visually...the belt is in absolutely perfect condition. I believe the problem there is the tensioner. I rarely drive the car, so I haven't had a chance to address it yet.
Anyway, back to the ticking. I'm 100% certain it's not the belt, it's just like the video I showed. EXACTLY like that. It's coming from under the valve covers.
I've got an 03' that's been 'ticking for over a year now, what was the solution?
I would go to the local auto parts store and buy a stethoscope, they run around ten dollars. Go around the engine while running and narrow down the noise.
