I am also going to be needing new tires soon and would like to go with run flats. I have heard good things about the firestones, except that they are narrower than stock.
Michelin and Yokohama also make run flats, but have not heard much about them. Anyone have them?

Is this true? Tire Rack's Specs show that the tread width of the Firestones versus Goodyear is substantial
They show Sectional width to be almost the same (Fronts both 9.6) & (Rear 10.8GY to 10.9F) but when
you look @ tread width it is substantial (Fronts 9.2GY to 7.4F that's -1.8") & (Rear 10.3GY to 8.6F that's
-1.7") so WOW! Somone who has Firestones needs to measure tread width and if this is true just the tread
surface difference in contact with the pavement could mean the reduction in noise. I tried to look @
Firestones site for specs but it is so engrossed in lawyers and lawsuits that the specifications page doesn't
work anymore. I'm going to post this in Tech Performance if no one replies. Thanks.

This has been hashed out before and yes it is true. But you have to remember that the GY EMTs have a very squared off shoulder on the tire, the Firestones have a rounded shoulder thus explaining the difference. Some folks prefer the fat, blocky look on their tires, others like the look of a rounded shoulder, it's all about preference. But when it comes down to traction there is certainly no loss of traction with the Firestones over the GYs, and that is the truth! And actually the wet weather traction on the Firestones is hand down better then the GYs. No more hydroplaning at highway speeds in the rain!
I'm sure that someone can explain the pros/cons of having a squared shoulder or a rounded shoulder on your tires.
Can you spell Y O K O H A M A ????
I LOVE them and they handle like rails
Got mine from LUKE at Tire rack .
Have 20000 miles and they are hardly worn
BUT they are now REALLY starting to feel like
GLUE ...would NEVER buy anything else . :D :smash: :yesnod:
I just put on a set of Yokohama AVS. Wow, what a great tire. Quite and handles great! Had the Mich pilot sports but do way too much commuting not to have run flats.
