I bought a shifter and **** from an 08.Now,i got it yesterday. Its only the shifter and ****, not the whole assembly.Has anyone just replaces the shifter.I wish it was the whole assembly, but thought that all i need. Can i just put the shifter in my C5 assembly box.Is it going to still work ok.Thanks..........Dan
Most members who've bought the latest craze C6/Z06 shifter and ergonomic **** have probably purchased the complete GM assembly...shifter/**** and pivot box.
In doing so, they got new bushings and a new plastic snap on bushing at the end of the shifter. They don't have to remove the shifter from the pivot box. It's a drop in R&R. This is probably why so many swear this is the best shifter they've tried...it's all new parts!
However, the C6/Z06 shifter/**** is a simple R&R to your C5/Z06. You will need to remove the plastic snap on bushing from your existing shifter and apply it to your C6/Z06 shifter. Lubricate it lightly to ease the bushing re-installation. The new shifter is slightly angled rather than straight and slightly shorter than oem C5/Z06. Be sure you use the oem neutral alignment pin during installation. Remove it once the four 1/4-20 bolts are torqued to 8-10#. Use LOCTITE.
This procedure has been discussed numerous times. Go to the C5 Tech forum, click on "search this forum" and use keywords "C6/Z06 shifter install"...you'll have plenty to read...

thanks, hotwheels.I did alittle search and i really could not find the anwser i was looking for.Anyways,Im going to try this,i will let you know how it went. Thanks for your time.............
You can do it. You will bond with your car. The hardest part is getting the darn radio surround trim panel off and dealing with the wires in the center console. You don't really need to remove all of the male/female connections...you can just temporarily set the radio surround off to the side while you R&R the shifter. Don't drop any bolts or tools down into the torque tube/heat shield area unless you're ready to fish them out with a magnet or allow them to rattle around until they fall out. I stuffed a rag around the pivot box to prevent that.
I used the suggested keywords and found this past post. It seems to be the most popular for this doing this project...from CF member Patches... http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...c6+zo6+shifter
Look at this as well... http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1022661

Go ahead. The shifter is all I changed on my car. As far as I can tell, the box is the same for either one.
Even if I had the whole assembly, I would probably just replace the shifter part. That way, you don't have to be concerned about the neutral pin and getting the assembly clamped onto the shift rod in exactly the right place.
Aftermarket shifters only come with the top part of the shifter, so the installation is the same.
