Default Column Lock Recall and a New Tune

Hello,

I just purchased a 2002 Z06. According to the dealer the recall has been performed on my car, which appears to be a re-program of the ECM only. I want to add headers and a tune and wanted to check if I defintely need to purchase and install a CLB.

1. Is there anyway to keep the recall changes in there or will they be wiped out when the new tune is flashed in to the ECM?

2. If I save the original tune via tuning software, will the file have the recall fixes saved as well or are they programmed elsewhere?

I have not had the documented column lock issue pop up yet, but I did have an issue where when I first start the car, put it into reverse, start rolling backward and the steering wheel has locked. Yes, while the car is running/moving, but only going 1MPH or so in reverse. It has only happened twice. I get no message on the display. I just turn it off, which unlocks the steering wheel, then proceed again as normal. I wonder if there is a condition where if the voltage is not up to a certain point and the car starts moving backwards it will kick in a theft procedure like the column lock?

Anyway, thanks in advance for the help.

I've heard the GM Recall fix to the ECM is a 50/50 success. You're better off purchasing a CLB harness from one of the vendors and never worry about it again - that's what I did. In fact, the dealer removed the recall notice from my VIN in the GM system because I had the CLB harness installed.

Easiest and best fix is to install an aftermarket CLB (Column Lock Bypass) kit.

That is what I initially though but if the recall reprogramming was performed then the CLB will not help with the fuel shutoff. I am trying to figure out if you can essentially erase the recall via tuning software so the CLB is effective.

I can't seem to find an answer on this though.
