Had enough with Traction Control? Sick of forgetting to put the car in Competition mode, or holding down that button for five seconds? Do you wish Chevrolet would have let you decide how the Traction Control or Active Handling systems are set when you start the car?

Well, you don't have to do it Chevrolet's way any more! The TracActive Controller from LapTrax puts the power in your hands, where it belongs.

Total control is what the TracActive Controller is all about. You can set the controller to disable Traction Control (and Active Handling, if equipped), place the car into Competition Mode, or simply remain passive and do nothing. You can even set whether the controller confirms it's operations with beeps or remains silent. Whatever option you choose, the standard messages will still appear on the Driver Information Center (DIC). To turn Traction Control and/or Active Handling back on, simply press the factory Traction Control/Active Handling switch on the center console at any time.

What size is this device, and where does it mount?

 

Hi! The device is very small, a bit larger than the Corvette key fob remote. It mounts near the BCM under the passenger side footwell. Installation is very simple (the standard unit takes less than fifteen minutes).

This is a terrific gadget that does exactly what it says. Afetr all of the complaints, including mine, about the fixed GM startup mode, Mike stepped up to the plate big time! Get the deluxe unit so that all post-startup fiddling is eliminated. And if you do get the deluxe unit, go ahead and install the column lock bypass at the same time, since you will be right there (I would never go for the GM fix on the column lock for the M6 - the picture of any of our local badwrench droids tearing into my steering column gives me the cold sweats).

I would buy one if the price was cheeper. I'll wait and see what happens.

 

I have always disliked traction control and active handling in the default mode. The way Chevy designed the manual off mode to "Competition Driving" disabled the DIC. Somebody at GM must have thought owners of Vettes were really Cadillac owners in disguise :rolleyes: . I think the Deluxe unit would be perfect. What would be real sweet is for someone to document the install of a Deluxe unit with pix :D

 

The Deluxe isn't really to hard to install. You really can't see behind the dash when you're connecting the wire, it's all done by feel. That's why the instructions don't have pictures.

The price of the units will not come down anytime in the forseeable future. Developing and manufacturing a product of this type is quite expensive and the components themselves are not cheap.

I agree. It is very easy to install. We will install them for local C5 owners that want this product, but don't want to mess with the BCM.
