You also need to put the DIC on average and hit reset to reset that guage. Just resetting the trip does not do it.

Don't just reset the trip meter. Reset the average MPG as well. Just navigate to that page in the DIC and hold the reset button. There may have been a whole lotta miles driven on the street that are affecting the average MPG. Resetting it will clear the history out and start over.
i've kind of wondered this as well. the DIC will show an average for example; 20 mpg. after fueling up, the DIC will show an average, example, 28 mpg. let the car set a day or two and the mpg average drops, example; 19 mpg. it always shows more mpg right after a fill up and will drop after car sets for a while. all the numbers used here are an example only and not the actual mpg.

is this normal?
Is your example above also including resetting the MPG on the DIC right after a fill-up? In order to get an accurate DIC MPG you need to reset the DIC after a fill-up.
I've tracked my MPG and compared it to the DIC MPG ever since I got my Zee in 2002. The DIC normally reads only 2~4% higher than a calculated MPG based on miles and pump gallons -- not too shabby IMO. I've watched the DIC MPG right after a fill-up and reset, and it seems to settle into what the normal MPG avg would be after about 5~8 miles of driving.
yes, this is after resetting the DIC after each fill up. everytime i fill up, reset the DIC, i get higher average mpg on the DIC. it will plain out to +- 26mpg. once i let the car set for a day or two (or even longer) the average mpg is lower 20 mpg until my next fill up. according to the DIC i get better gas mileage immediatley after a fill up. its just one of those things that make me go... Hmmmmmmmm????

The average will be higher if you happen to jump on the highway first thing and then drive through city streets, it will start dropping. The opposite will happen if you get gas in the city it will start low and go higher on the highway. If that's not what's happening then you must have something wrong with it. It should not change by sitting unless you're idling.
