Sup Corvette bros, I drive a 1997 c5 m6. Any ways a burnt up all the oil so fast i didn't relize I was so low on oil. That just led to a knocking noize caused by Rod Bearings spun and cylinders in engine scored. I had Ray Huffines check it out and they wanted 8,500 $$$ to fix that poopie?? any ways so i think i decided i should perchace a slightly used engine with heads and cam or a block and repair it. any tips on what to do or were to look for a moter like this, and even were should i bring my car (i live in plano) what is recomended .. thanx alot...

$8.5k??? A new motor shouldn't cost any more than $3-4k plus another $1-2k in labor. Prices do vary. Maybe you should get an aftermarket motor.

You can get a new block from valvegod on ebay for about 500 bucks. He always has ls1 stock even if he isnt running an auction.

Alternativly you can get a Resleeved bored tuner block for about $2200

You could build an all bore motor using stock bottom end.

There is lots of options you can do for less than 8K

A generic LS1 from Mr. Goodwrench goes for $6,700 where the 2002
engine is $8,000. I know this because the $8K engine for my car is
on a truck from the factory to my dealer at this time. The $8k is for
the long block and does not cover labor or other mics (required) items.

I feel sure a short block would be much less than either number mentioned
above.

If you are paying the bill, I suggest you find an aftermarket engine

Kewl,

Where can you find a resleeved bored tuner block for $2200? That is one hell of a deal, since that is less than a normal block. That can't possibly include work on the crank, the rods, and the pistons. Is $2200 with or without a core exchange? ARE charges $4650 for their smallest all bore motor and that's with a core exchange.

Also, you can't build an all bore with stock bottom end since you would, at the very least, need to replace the pistons.

Dick,

I was talking about only a shortblock, not necessarily new either.

Sorry for any confusion. I meant that tuners like ARE are charging about 2200 for a bare machined resleeved bored block only. No guts.

Pistons and stronger rod bolts would be the only non-stock things needed to build an all bore bottom end.

By the sound of your post you will need pistons for sure and maybe a crank. If your look around you should be able to pick up a short block if your heads are still good and be rolling again. :D

Pick up a copy of Chevy High Performance magazine.
One of the adds has a complete LS1 for an F-body for $5649.75.
I assume an LS1 is an LS1.
The place is in Lubbock Tx.
