Well my newly bought 2002 6 speed coupe with only 25k on it is making some bad sounds when i release the clutch to engage first gear....so im gonna replace the uhhh whatever you call all that stuff. My mechanic already has the car and said he would give me some systems to upgrade it with. I told him that i had to consult my team (which is you all) on what to get and where to get the best deal.
Does it have a grinding sound? Does the gear engage on Clutch release?
I do hope that you are going to a Corvette Specialist. A Chevy dealer with a factory trained mechanic is the least you should settle for. This ain't your granpappy's Chevy.
well hes not a chevy dealer he is a a great guy who is Honest and knows his cars and does all the cars on my lot and not had one problem out of him....when i bought the car it needed some little stuff and he ran through it like a pro. Not that this gives him any accomplishments worthy of being a vette mechanic he is the owner of the very first XLR of the line. But the main thing is i trust him.
When i let out of the clutch (slowly) its makes what sounds like a grinding sound but does not feel like a grinding. Just a horrid sound. The transmission still pulls strong as death.
2 days ago i was goofing off and i went to like half clucth it to light the tires up and then really lay into it but the car took off just didnt light em up as if it kinda slipped but when i brought it to a stop smoke came out from under the car....bad smell which = . The car made this sound before i did that so i knew it wasnt from that. The car drives and shifts fine as it is know it just makes that sound so im deciding to pull the clutch assembly and upgrading it.
If the noise was present with the clutch engaged, it could be a clutch release bearing, or the pilot bearing. The stink you smelled is a fried clutch. 1/2 clutch operation sounds like you slipped it. Very hard on the machine. Next time, after you drop the tranny to replace the clutch and "stuff", push the clutch full down to the stop, rev the engine to a reasonable RPM and release it faster. You will light them up. You might also tear up the rear diff. But its only $$$$ right.
I used to live in Luval,Ky. Raced at Ohio Valley Raceway's 1/8 mile dragstrip. Just don't tell my Dad.
ahhh good ole ohio valley i used to race my 93 cobra and 96 impala SS had a blast ....the lady who to sit up in the booth is a good freind of mine ...i sell there family all their vehicles as a matter of fact i just sold them a new truck.....good times.

When you want to "Light Them Babies Up", you might try turning off active handling - probably what happened when your Vette "kinda slipped", A.H. applied the brakes for you so you wouldn't slide around.
I have a Cartek clutch in my FRC and it makes a rattling (or somewhat grinding) sound all the time when releasing the clutch in 1rst gear. It also makes a similar sound when I turn the car off without having the clutch engaged. I hear this is fairly common in MN6 vettes. Not sure if it's the same issue/symptom as yours, but if the car is running and shifting just fine, I would hold off on replacing any of the "uhh whatever stuff" or paying your mechanic for "system upgrades". I'm sure there's an experienced vette owner or a Corvette Club/Group in your area that would be willing to listen to and/or drive the car and offer some knowledgeable advice.
As for getting help on the forum, you made your original post yesterday at 10:00PM PST and are complaining about the lack of responses at 8:20AM PST. Not even 12-hours..., during which most of those hours are late night for a large sector of forum members (EST, CST, MST...). How about showing a little patience? In addition, it's kind of hard for folks to isolate a problem when the symptom is 'it's making a sound', but the car works perfectly otherwise.
Good luck on finding a resolution, and I'm sure some knowledgable folks will chim in here. But I'd highly recommend getting a few local opinions from experienced vette owners or mechanics who can actually hear/drive the car before spending big bucks on a tranny/clutch rebuild.
BTW, I agree with one of the previous posters... Try turning off the Active Handling and see if the car 'lights them up'. Be careful though...

So you all are on....im all
Take it apart and find out what the noise is. You want someone to diagnose your noise problem without hearing it? It's most likely the clutch or slave making the racket but what's the difference anyway-you need to dig into it to find out. You have a guy you trust, have him diagnose it. If he takes it apart, have him add a remote bleeder to the system while it's apart.
