Default Need some help

I have an 02 coupe with some basic mods intake exhaust headers no cats and I use rp 5w30 oil. I have noticed that my car gets real dirty on the back with small black specks and my tips get real dirty fast. Is this from running too rich? Aslo if I run the car through the gears I can smell an oil burn type of smell and I noticed that my low oil light comes on too I guess I am about 2000k on this oil. what can I do to keep from using so much oil?

the dirt on the back is a common plauge of all C5's just clean frequently!

as for the oil light, oil pressure sensors tend to go bad, but when they do they show 80psi constantly. if your oil pressure is showing too low and/or you are getting an oil light you need to find the problem, and avoid driving the car until you do. first off make sure you have enough oil in the oil pan. some C5's burn oil (2001's in particular) or you may have an oil leak. if you aren't leaking and you have enough oil in the oil pan. then your oil pump may have STB, if so you will need to replace it.

Ummmm...I'm going thru the same thing and attempting to fix. This is how I'm going to approach it, but first things first. If you have HIGH? miles, try stepping up to 10W-40. If your LOW OIL light is coming on it has NOTHING to do with your PRESSURE...check the level and ADD OIL if it's low....that's why this light comes on. You should be checking it and adding before that light ever comes on.

NOW, this is the way I'm guessing the oil is getting on your back end. The PCV line is puttint too much oil into the intake and it's entering the combustion process. SO.....I'm just getting ready to do this.....This might not be necessary, but a Breather to replace the oil fill cap. Then replacing the std PCV valve with fixed orifice (maybe not?). BUT the main thing is a catch can or COALESCING FILTER setup (do a search). Dave is coming up with a new design by the end of this month. SO, I'm waiting to see what he has. ALL or PART of what I described will reduce the amount of oil entering the intake. IF it still exists, then you (AND I) must have bad rings and oil is being pushed past them.

I haven't proved that any of this will work, but I think from other posts, this is a good start. Do some research and maybe you'll agree or come up with something similar?

Good Luck.

Are you really sure it's oil? This time of year with short trips, the exhaust tends to drip condensation which doesn't all get burned off. The condensation brings with it, the carbon from within the exhaust system.
