I have bought a new 1999 C5, a new 2000 C5, a new 2001 C5, and a new 2002 C5, and have been completely satisfied with each one, no problems, no trouble, no runs, no drips, no errrors! Where on your survey do I fit in?
Would you like more horsepower better parts and overall improvement zippy ?If you never want the corvette to change again or become better than yes those people don't have a place on my petition. :D
You all have one more signature to add to your list!!
I think this is a good idea and wholeheartedly endorse it. I believe that GM, being the largest automaker in the world, has tremendous potential to build a truly world class sports car. Unfortunately for some reason or another they choose to cheapen it in ways that may seem insignificant to some brand manager who isn't an enthusiast, but to us who are corvette enthusiasts, it means a whole lot when we ride in our grandmas buick and see the exact same *****, displays, buttons as we look at everyday in our corvettes. Don't get me wrong I really do love my corvette, but not a day goes by that I dont think about what GM could do if it really decided to put its resources into building a truly world class sports car. !!
I signed. Although I am happy with my 2002 and it's performance. There are a few things on it that I would like GM to correct. Mainly being the rattling noise of the tranny while at idle.
Vic,
I only agree with you as far as the power and telemetry gadgets go.
I want more power too and I'm sure that GM could put a high performance engine in the Vettes as they did with the Astras in Europe but here in the US they (GM) are severely limited by environmental and other restrictions. The best gas I can buy here in CA has 91 Octane whereas in Europe, 98 octane is at every pump.
As far as fit & finish is concerned, GM could improve as well. The only problem would be costs. Just compare a full loaded Vette with a comparable Euro sports car. (Porsche, Ferrari ......) BMW's , with the exception of the Z8 ,don't count since they sit 4 persons and are considered limousines imho. The Euros cost at least double compared to a fully loaded Vette. As for now, I think the Vette offers best bang for the buck if you compare cost vs. performance.
GM could easily bring the Vette up to the Euro quality level but this would make the car too expensive and would reduce their potential market with 50% or more. Personally I wonder how many people would pay 80K or more for 400 rwhp and super fit & finish Vette. Maybe we should start another poll?
I have 46K miles on my '99 coupe right now and so far , the car had only a few minor problems. ( warped rotors and a leaking rear differential which all got taken care off under warranty) I would buy another Vette if the price was right but if pricing came close to the Porsche range, I would go for the Porsche instead. For now, I want the Vette to remain as is. I can easily live with the few minor inconveniences and once I nail the throttle, it makes me forget all the imperfections :D
If you don't agree with every drop of the petition that's ok . Put down your addition to it in the comments section , the comments will be read right beside the signatures .As long as you are for the betterment of the corvettes quality control , technology , service , horsepower , and the overall improvement of the vette sign on the line and write what ya think . All ya gotta do is put your name and email address( which is not visible to anyone ) and a comment if you'd like one to appear by your name.
