Engine removal question
When removing the engine from the top of the car, is it necessary to drop the torque tube, transmision, rear carriage etc. or can you just leave it in place and unbolt it from the motor? Also will the steering shaft have to be removed as well?

I pulled my engine out from the top a couple of weeks ago to get ready for my 422. I have an A4 so it was fairly easy. A 6 speed would be much harder to come out the top and leave the drive line in place. You would have to remove the steering rack and sub frame or at least drop it down so the oil pan would clear. If I had a lift it would have come out the bottom, but sometimes you have to do what ever it takes to get the job done. Good Luck.
