The Blackwing by itself does well. The cover will do nothing to gain more power but it will lower the air temp the air filter receives. Cooler air usually means more power. You wont feel the difference with the cover if thats what you want the cover for. Hope I helped!
Someone on here added the cold-air cover and gained a consistent .1 on the drag strip. Add the cover and the Donaldson becomes equal to the Vortex in performance with the cold air. 10 degrees lower intake temp is worth 1% hp, and there's definitely a 10 degree minimum temp differential between outside and inside the engine compartment-that's worth at least 3 hp right there.
I'm actually installing the cold air cover tomorrow. I have the donaldson and I do like it, however, that baby sucks a lot of hot air from the engine bay. I compared my car to a friends with a vortex and there is a big temp difference. I compared them with an autotap, both at idle and while driving. At some instances the temp diff was between 15 and 20 degrees. The only issue is that there are a lot of complaints about the car surging with the cover on. I heard a couple reasons why this occurs. I heard its:
(1) air turbulance due to a poor seal when the cold air cover is installed and
(2) I heard its the fact that due to the poor seal you get both engine bay air and cold air into the filter and temp diff causes issues with the MAF.
I believe #2. This poor seal is common with the cold air cover because of the cheesy instructions and fasteners that come with the cover. You probably will need to add more screws to the cover or some kind of weather stripping. I plan to fasten and seal it until I think its sealed enough to only let cold air in. I plan to test this theory tomorrow so I hope it works out for me. Good luck
