Interested in ceramic brake pads for front brakes on C5, such as GM and NAPA and others.
What has been your experience, and are drilled and slotted rotors too aggressive for these pads. Do they cause the pads to wear prematurely?
Any squeeking?
I haven't heard any good about the NAPA or GM Ceramics, though the GMs are made by Raybestos. I wholeheartedly suggest the Raybestos QS from Pep Boys or Checker, they stop as well or better than stock after a 200-300 mile break-in, are lifetime replacement, cheaper than stock, and really don't dust. Who cares about pad wear? Just get them replaced, though they are a slightly harder pad than stock. They run about 80 a set for front, and with the lifetime replacement, that's it.
As for squeaking, as long as it's not a metallic pad, it won't squeak from the pad. Most brake squeak is a vibration somewhere. To solve this is a simple 3 step process. Spray the backs of the pads with brake anti-squeal, lube the sliders with a dab of anti-seize or the tube of anti-seize that the QS pads come with, and grease the caliper sliders with a dab of grease. I have NEVER had a pad squeal with those 3 simple steps.
I have the napa ceramix pads, I believe they are the same as the Raybestos quiet stops, but am not positive. I am not very satisfied with them, they do not stop as good as stocks, and require more pedal pressure.
It's because of feedback like this that I suspect that though Raybestos may manufacture for many companies, its own brand QS pad is superior. I really haven't seen anyone satisfied with the NAPA or GM Ceramics, but there are a bunch of people very happy with the Raybestos QS.
Anyone do any braking tests of Stock vs. Raybestos QS's?? Or just test the QS's with a G-Tech maybe and we can compare to stock data.
I run the QS's also. My SOTP is a 5% loss in stopping power. Supposedly the Ceramic takes longer to warm up and for the first few miles you are at only 60% stopping power, so be careful when first driving your car when it's cold.
