funny thing is two or three years ago, on this site, it seems like the whole front page was carfax requests. there was even one guy who posted that he had unlimited and was taking requests in a thread.

Now we're politically correct - slow as $Ehit - but politically correct.
Which brings me back to my original post. I'm going to look at a 99 FRC tomorrow and need the Forum's help. Since I've not had a C5 yet, I was wondering what to check. It's a 6 speed platimum FRC w/25k miles, second owner, new tires. He's asking $19,999 but KBB for Excellant Condition Private Party is around $18K which is what I hope to pay.
I know about the rear leak, the battery leak and the steering colunm lock. (Sure hate to have that lock when I'm driving!) Any advice from the experts would be appreciated!
I have a '99 FRC. It has been a great car. Column lock bypass isn't a big deal (cost me ~ $50). Pay attention for clutch chatter, difficulty getting into any gears, fluid color in clutch master cylinder, battery terminals. Look for paint repair signs, like overspray around door hinges, wheel wells, lights, etc. Check out underneath the front bumper to see how bad it has been scraped. You would be getting a great deal for a 25k mile FRC at $18k. His asking price is pretty decent. Does it have any modifications?

It's bone stock. Thanks for the tips! Can I get more details on the possible clutch problem and the fix please.
You shouldn't have any clutch problems with a 25k mile car, but I was just suggesting you pay close attention to how the clutch feels and the transmission shifts. A clutch replacement will run close to $1k.
Also check out the tire depth. Use the tire condition to your advantage when trying to negotiate the sale. A set of OEM runflats can cost close to $1k also. Of course you can get a decent set of non-runflats for ½ that price.
I own a 2000 FRC, in showroom condition. I bought it last March, it had 29,000 miles, for $19,200. It needed tires when I bought it, so you could add another $1600 to the selling price. I felt that I got a fair deal and the seller got a fair price. Column lock was already bypassed so I didn`t have to deal with that. The only work I have done to it is adjust the parking brake, (That still sucks, I always leave it in gear when I park on a grade.) I also replaced the steel brake lines from the splice above the transmission to the rear wheels, due to rust at the bends. It wasn`t leaking yet but it was only a matter of time. I choose to replace the rubber brake lines with stainless steel lines, it was not really something that had to be done. I added HUD and fog lights, also by choice. Since I did all that, I have put on 4000 trouble free miles. It is addicting to drive, I watch the weather and take the car out whenever I can. If I go for a week or two without driving it, I get grumpy. ( Probably true of all Corvette owners!) I had an Economics prof that said if you spend too much for an item, but love that item, then it wasn`t too much. If you spend a dollar for an item and hate it you wasted your money!
