USE TECHRON
Then try for Chevron or Texaco gas. Has Techron in it. Can also use Seafoam right in the tank but don't use both Seafoan and Techron at the same time. Mine recurrs intermittently. Dealer replaced sender years ago but dont want to have to go into gas tank now if I can help it. BIGHANK
Techron usually solves the problem. I asked about the codes because if you are getting a P1431(Right Tank Sending Unit), there is a PCM Firmware update for that one.

There is a software update for this, but my understanding is that GM simply changed the algorithm that determines when to set the DTC .... that is, they made the PCM less "sensitive" to a sticking fuel level sensor. In other words, it doesn't "fix" the problem, it simply makes it less likely that you'll be aware you have a sticking sensor ......
I'd skip the software change and fix the problem ... you're totally right, try Techron first, and if the problem continues, then a new sensor (in whichever tank has the problem) is the next step. Based on what I've seen on the fforum, it seems like about 90 percent of the time a couple of tanks of Techron solve the problem.
I agree with you. Techron is the first choice. Mine only has about two weeks on it with the update and so far, no P1431....yet. Its due for another bottle of techron, but I'm holding off this time to see if the fuel guage going to zero appears again.
The collective knowledge on this site is amazing. The greatest tool we have is others experience and help. I will use the chevron techron (wal-mart for $6 ),I just used it in on of my cycles that had sit and had carb problems........It works great.I would have never thought to use it for this problem. Thank you ,Thank you, Thank you !!!!!!!

Same thing happened to me. If you have a scanner, erase the code and it will reset it. Then you add the techron. Good luck.
I used STP complete fuel system cleaner when my gage didn't work and it fixed it. I now use Techron every 3rd or 4th tank and no more problems with a sticking gage. The STP is only to be used every 4000 miles. It also cleans the lines and injecters. I guess it is stronger then the techron.
Corvettes are not the only cars having this problem. It is the sulpher content in the fuel that causes the problem and when the float in the tank gets contaminated the gage sticks.
Back when this first happened about six years ago my dealer said I needed to replace the floats in the tanks for about $1000.00 cost. I went to this forum and told about the Techron treatment and saved the cost of the repairs. I could not find Techron at that time so I used STP total fuel system cleaner and it worked.
The best way to use the Techron is to put it in when the tank is almost empty so it mixes in both sides.
