I am on the brink of purchasing the B1 cam from MTI for my 2000 Coupe.
My question is this; for everyone running these cams, is your engine warranty voided?
If not, for the guys here in Dallas area, where do you take your car for engine service?
Will this void our warranties?
All opinions welcomed.....
Give it up Kid your just going to have to be slow forever. You need to give me a little time to catch up with you on the mods though. I hear Fasttech and Speedworks know how to handle heads and cam issues. Just don't blow your engine and expect to have chevy replace it for you.
hey, take your car the Keith Overturff @ Ray Huffines in Plano! :yesnod:
Dont worry about it and regardless of what anyone else tells you, take it to Keith and he will take GREAT care of you! (wink wink) Your warranty will NOT be voided entirely. They will warrant everything "around" the cam and springs, rods, etc.. so you will only need to worry about the cam itself and the accesories you intall with it.. If you bend a rod or break a spring  you will have to take that up with MTI within thier warranty structure.. + the labor to replace it..
There is another active post with excellent information on warrantees as regards aftermarket equipment. I'm not an expert, so take my opinion for what you want, but I'd bet that if you put in a cam, your warrantee on any engine components will be gone. Look for the other post as it has a good link that explains the in's and out's of this matter.
I went down this painful path of analysis some time ago, so I know you want the perfect answer. But, the owner's manual has pretty strong language that says if you mod it, and the mod causes a problem, then the problem is not covered under warranty. Perhaps you can find a good service writer on some things, but when I roasted the engine in my C4 then it quickly went to some area big shot who made the call; yes, my service writer had some input, but big ticket items were not his call (and he's been around for a long time). In my case, my C4 engine was totally stock, so there was no room for argument. But, if you put a cam in your engine and later have a major malfunction, who is going to be able to say with much certainty as whether the cam caused it. Many here have said the burden to show the cause is on GM, but that doesn't mean they won't drag their feet and do all they can to have you pay for it. After all, if you sued them, what kind of jury is going to feel sorry for someone who stuck a performance part in the middle of his engine.
Sorry to be so blunt; believe me, I'd love to have a cam in my car and keep my engine warranty. But, I just don't think that is very realistic. Good luck.
I agree with everything you say as typical behavior of a dealership.. Although, Keith @ Huffines will shoot you very straight.. He will tell you what you can and cant do + what to expect if you do, do some of the mods.. This is the value specifically unique to Keith Overturff.
My first service advisor @ Huffines (long ago) was Reggie Paminto, and I asked him if I installed a BPP Vortex intake would it void my warranty and he said YES - if you touch ANYTHING under that hood that they wouldn’t warrant it! I was shocked, and needles to say I posted here on the forum asking whom was the best to work with here in Dallas. And many told me to talk to Keith.. Service has been painless since then.. What’s funny is that Keith and Reggie actually sit next to each other in the service area.. So it was a lill strange talking to Keith about the very mods that Reggie told me I couldn’t do... Makes you wonder about who is on who’s side eh?
Also, a little bit about Keith Overturf - He owns a newer Camaro Z28 A4 with a PI Vigilante 3200 Stall TC (2.5 STR) and has a GM Hot Cam + a supercharger :D - He is an avid drag racer and recently took 2nd or 1st place in the Super Chevy Shoot out this past OCT. His Z28 is his daily driver and he knows what mods to advise you of to keep you in good shape with daily drivability...
