Default Need some help, have you dropped an engine?

Hey,

I’m trying to drop the engine, its going pretty well overall, but I’m running into a minor issue. I looked at the GM shop manual and did not see the best way of dealing with the EBCM and the brake lines.

I’d like to tie the EBCM off to something and leave it in place. The issue is the RF brake line goes under the power steering. The shop manual kind of implies that you would need to remove the power steering, but other than the brake line it looks like the power steering stuff would just drop with the engine. Will it?

Could I disconnect the RF brake line and drop it with the engine? Or would I be asking for more trouble than its worth? I would assume I would need to cap off both sides of the line to keep junk and air out, but since its on the brake side of the EBCM is the chance of contamination low? Whats a good way to cap the line off? Am I missing any other issues?

How have you done it?

Thanks
Matt

The service manual does not imply to remove the power steering, rather it specifically states:

Remove the power steering pump pulley, remove power steering pump bolts, then remove the power steering pump and reservoir from the engine and reposition them to the crossmember.

This is out of my 99 service manual, I do not know if it is stated differently in other years.

Ya, thanks, but was trying to avoid the power steering because its a PIA. Not even sure what is ment by "reposition them to the crossmember" as thats kind of where they are, just up a few inches. Anyway, I'm not sure if dropping them down will help with that brake line. I'm most likely wrong, but just can't see how to do it...

"reposition" means take it off the engine, and put it on the crossmember so it's out of the way.
