Hey guys I was reading around about the thin 5 spoke rims have the tendency to crack I have read that the Alcoa are the better brand?.. and the Speedlines are the ones that arent so good? I also read that you can find out what brand it is by looking on the inside part near the hub …hmmm I didn’t see anything but GM and some casting number saying what size it is and USA…well I am guessing that’s good because I heard that Speedlines was made in Italy? I really don’t know I kept reading all kinds of things…The next question I have is the TPS that are on these rims and tires… if I were to mount them on anther car do I buy another receiver/monitor to get them to work? Or buy new set sensors and receiver /monitor
Thanks in advance for any put that would clarify things for me
you said take these wheels and tires and tps, and monut them on another car???? what kind of a car???? if you are talking an other corvette, that corvette should have tps in it.
If you are talking some other type of car, you can buy a receiver for the tps sytem but the reciever will have nothing to communicate the data too...

Also, the speedlines are spun cast, alcoas are forged..

I'm not sure what you're asking here, but the TPS can be removed from the factory wheels. If you put new wheels on your C5, just reuse your TPS on your new wheels. If you put your C5 wheels on another car and just leave the TPS in the wheels, they're pretty much useless and have no purpose anymore but otherwise won't affect anything on the other car.
If you put your C5 wheels with TPS on another car, your Corvette will notice that you no longer have TPS's on your wheels and I'm sure error codes will show up immediately.
To further elaborate on the TPS, not all aftermarket wheels will take the TPS. You can, however, epoxy and band TPSs inside any wheels (mark location for using magnet to re-learn them).
The TPS system can be turned off on 2001 and later cars (since Z06's didn't have sensors). On earlier years, you have to put up with the warning every time you start your car without TPSs.
ok that makes things a little clear...so if i take the wheels off and put it on another car...the sensors are useless because i cant buy another monitor to mount on to the car to pick up the signal....so speedlines are spun cast, alcoas are forged so that being said and forged is better...how can you tell which one you have?..i can find anything Speedlines or Alcoas
oh yea thanks for the response too
The hi-polished wheels (I assume they are all Alcoas) are the ones prone to cracking at the spokes. Do a search - many writeups here in the forum on those wheels...

I've had or have 4 sets of the Alcoas and not one hint of a problem ever
