Default Deltran Battery Tender Plus Questions

I was thinking of buying one and had a couple of questions. Do the alligator clips connect to the + and - battery posts and is this the preferred way and will they be secure? Is it better to connect the - alligator clip elsewhere?

With the connections made can the hood be secured properly?

Any help will be appreciated.

The BATTERY TENDER PLUS or BATTERY TENDER JR. by DELTRAN CORPORATION (or the European CTEK pulse charger) come with both alligator clips for "temporary" connection or ring terminal leads for a permanent connection. I prefer the latter. Either lead will have a fused quick disconnect male/female connector.
Using the alligator clips might result in one coming off when you don't want it to do so.
I ran the leads for mine out of the engine compartment so that I can close the hood and use my car cover. Some elect to leave their hoods unlatched. Some prefer to use a cigarette lighter connection within the interior. The charger itself will be a little warm as it performs its function.
I connected my BATTERY TENDER PLUS to the nuts that tighten the battery terminals to the top posts.
Some will suggest you connect at a power point away from the battery and a ground. That's fine if that's your choice. The purpose of that is to eliminate any potential for sparks to possibly ignite battery out gassing. I use only OPTIMA batteries so it isn't my concern.

Have you checked the battery tender website?

http://batterytender.com/connecting.php

Everything you need is explained here including additional cables etc. The alligator clips are a temp setup, while the ring terminals with quick disconnect are permanent (so to speak).

I've been hooking mine up to my battery using the clips for 6 winters with no problems. They won't slip off.

The Deltrans come with a ring set that permanently attach's to the battery. Then all you have to do is plug the two connectors together. It is a very secure way to keep taking it on and off.

If you want to make your life even easier. Change out battery cable's screws to the audio set. Then there will be no reason to un hook the battery later on.

I'm looking to attach ring connectors to audio bolts (battery bolt extenders) as well.
Dumb question:how do the bolts come out of the cables?

ACE Hardware has the same type tender at about 1/2 the price. I have 3 Deltrons & one ACE. Buy from ACE web-site and it will be delivered to local store.

They just push out with some force. I used a pair of channel locks and squeezed them out.

Thanks.......I'll pick up a couple of the bolts and get after it. I did'nt think there was much to it - probably just being a little too cautious.

(I had a C3 for a lot of years and you could hardly break anything on them)

Apply some heat and the oem bolts will come right out. The vinyl sheath is very rigid when cold.

As soon as this Ohio weather gets back in the 30's I'll try a hair dryer and get this thing installed.

Thanks for all the tips as always.
