Just installed Frost King insulation in the rear of my coupe. I've noticed a distinct smell sort of like a plastic smell. Was wondering if anyone has experienced a similar odor. If so, does it go away over time. If not, I wonder what caused it besides the insulation. Any information appreciated. Thank you.
I don't want this to seem like a hijack, but I have a similar problem.
I just installed this insulation in my '02 Coupe about 2 weeks ago. Yesterday I noticed my carpet wet in the cargo area. I lifted the carpet and noticed there were condensation drops all over the frost king. Has anyone else noticed this? I am in lower Alabama, and it is very humid here. I have never had any trouble with my hatch leaking, and don't want this to turn into a mold problem.
It hasn't started to smell yet, at least I haven't been able to tell. I only assume that will follow. Just wondering if anyone else is/has experiencing this phenomenon.
Very interesting. I hope more people comment. If I did something wrong with my installation I'd love to know. I will keep the windows open and hope for the best, because I like the sound reduction.

How can you differentiate between condensation drops and water that leaked through the carpet onto the insulation? My point being, it sounds like you have a leak somewhere to get that much moisture to soak the carpet.

I installed mine several years ago without any smell at all. I do agree that leaving the windows down for a few days should help. Maybe even go for a long drive and get things heated up to help get the smell out faster.

I have never noticed anything like you mentioned in the 3 years I have had mine installed, but I do live in the desert. Good luck finding the problem though. I haven't been watching the weather but if you have been having as much rain as I am hearing the northern states getting snow you may very well have a new leak.
It's solvent in the adhesive that will evaporate. I had one roll out of four with a bit of odor and thought maybe it was from a newer shipment than the others.

I am by no means an expert on this, but I know that I've never had any problems before this, and it seems a little weird where the water is. The water is only on the flat portion of the cargo compartment. Not on the wheel wells (looks like gravity pulled them off, or wouldn't let the water stand there), and it is down in all 3 of the storage bins. The only reason I noticed was because my flight bag is heavy, and I had to push down on the carpet for leverage. All three of the storage bin covers (removable doors) were dry.
I haven't by ruled out a leak, but if there is one, it would seem that it would have to be at the top of the hatch to account for where the water is pooling. But it hasn't rained in a few days, and there's still water down there.
Like I said, I don't want to hijack, just curious if any one else has this problem.
Adding insulation isnt going to cause the carpet to be wet. Sounds like something else.
i gotta agree. Though I never had any smell problems (and I've now FK'd 3 corvettes with the material).
I tested FK up to (and then past) it's rated temp. And nothing happened until surpassing the 180 degree mark... where it became a goo'y mess.
Dynamat and other similar products are known for emitting an odor soon after installation... which supposedly goes away after time. So I can only surmize that any FK order will go away in a similar manor.
it rained last night here, and low and behold... when I checked, I have a leak at the top of my hatch, running down and leaking where the top cover overlaps the speaker portion.
Oh well... sorry to cause any confusion, and that would explain the wet smell I now have in my car. Not the smell that the original post was about.
