Has anyone ever changed the exhaust on a 2000 C5 automatic? I trying to replace my stock exhaust with a set from a Z06. It's going ok, until I tried to remove the right side. I can not figure out how to get it out. I figure it's because of the automatic. Every example I read was for a 6-speed. I did drop the sway bar. I have turned it every way that I can and it does not appear to be possiable. Any great words of wisdom here??
Well I changed mine on on 2000 automatic to the same exhaust... It was not easy, especially since I am a home gargae kind of guy...
Getting the car off the ground with enough room under is key... I spent hours trying to wiggle it out as you describe with no luck until I increased the height under the car... Not sure how far raised I had the car but I recall seeing a few other related posts where they suggest a minimum of 40", well beyond most standard floor jacks...
Bottom line once it was up high enough the job managed to be easier. Even after all this it still required a good deal of trying, twisting, and turning...
Many folks have just cut the exhaust with a cutter and removed it this way. I wanted to save my original so I went the hard way. Turns out cutting might have been a good option since replacement stock exhausts are relatively cheap (even seen a few foks offering to give them away).
Not sure if that is a clear answer but I suspect your issue may be raised height.
Mine was done on a drive on type lift. A bar was placed under the frame while the car was slightly lowered to allow the suspension to drop a few inches. On the ground or at home its almost impossible.
