the inner leafspring bushings on my 99 targa car a sqeaking and I was wondering if there is a specific lube for them or what I can do to make the sound go away.
If you have OEM rubber bushings or have replaced those with any of the aftermarket bushings your best bet would be to lubricate with a graphite based lube. Unfortunately, you usually have to pull the bolt, squirt on the lube and reinstall the bolt to get at the squeek area.
I used White Lithium Grease and it helped a lot.
Others will say to use a Silicon spray. I tried this and it worked for about 5 minutes. Toss that stuff and go with the White Lithium Grease. You can pick it up at any autoparts store.
FYI - Those four bolts holding the spring in the middle (two on each side) are pretty hard to remove. Mine took some muscle to get them out and again later to get them back in. Buy some comprossed air (like what you use on a computer keyboard) and spray some of that in the open holes. You'll probably get a lot of metal dust (scary!) and lock-tite falling out. I was really glad I blew it out since it could have messed up the threads when reinstalling the bolt.
Are you sure it is the spring center-bushings that are making the noise?
Usually squeaky noises are coming from the sway bar bushings and/or swaybar endlinks.
Also, since you have a '99, you have the older rubber endlinks. If you have the money, you may want to invest in the newer metal endlinks that came on the 2001 and newer C5s. I believe Gene Culley sells them for about $84 for a set. No performance gain, but it could quiet your noisy suspension.
