My C5 came with a Blackwing Filter. I know to buy the cleaning and oiling kit.
Question I have is what exactly is the procedure. I mean, do you wash the filter in a bucket of solution, dry and then lightly oil or what? Thanks if anyone can help.
Spray the cleaner on the filter, and let it sit for 10-15 minutes.
Flush the filter from the inside using a low pressure hose. Just take the hose nozzle off and let the water gently flush the dirt out of the filter. Let it dry. Don't use an air hose. High pressure water or air can damage the filter material. When it's dry, spray an even coat of oil on the pleats. Don't over do it. Let the oil wick evenly into the filter before installing it.
If you buy the Blackwing cleaning kit, it will come with instructions.
Try to resist over-oiling the filter. Tendency is to get too much, and it can later fly off and coat the tiny wires on the MAF sensor, and cause driveability issues. Give it a light spray and wait a couple hours for it to distribute. Then re-hit any spots you missed. If you think you may have used too much, you can drive it a few days, and then pop it off and spray the maf wires with throttle body cleaner - no harm done.
