some help with p0420 and p0430 please
01 Z06 59K miles totally stock.
I know what the codes are. I just need one last bit of info on this before I torch the car.
It started with a p0420. (bank 1 sensor 2 cat out of threshhold).
I replaced both rear o2 sensors. reset codes.
I get a p0430. (other side bank 2 sensor 2)
Put in the original bank 2 O2 sensor. reset codes.
get a p0160. (bad sensor bank 2 sensor 2)
replace it with driver side original o2 sensor. reset codes.
Now I am back to p0420. which is still the new sensor through all these tests.
WTF is this thing doing bouncing back and forth?
will more codes pile up as I go?
I have not replaced the main O2's yet. should I?
Or should I take it to the dealer for hopefully a warrenty on the emission system?

Do you have headers, and/or high-flow cats on the car?
These are very common codes to see after a header/aftermarket cat install.
The P0420/0430 codes are not there to indicate a bad sensor. They are there to indicate bad or inefficient catalytic converters. If your cats are junk, putting all new sensors in won't fix that.

Just an update here. Took the car in finally and in 1 hour they called and said the cats are shot.
My warrenty seems to run out in nov? anyhow getting them replaced sometime this week when the cats show up.

I'll let you know when I get the car back. never know what they will try.
We had an odd conversation about that when I dropped it off. I was telling them how it was pretty much. lol... when they called they said "you were right" so who knows.

The 8/80 emissions warranty is federal requirement, not dealer choice.
It also only applies to "major" emissions components, which on the C5, consists of only two items....the catalytic converters, and the PCM.
If your cats were found to be bad, and the car is less than 8 years or 80k miles old, they have no choice but to replace them free of charge.

This is true,I was just verifying it for others. And it is 8/80
When mine was replaced, the dealer felt it was easier/cheaper to replace the entire midsection since both cats were bad.I guess the labor to cut and reweld new cats is pretty expensive at the dealer, as the part alone was over 1k on the invoice

Drove it for the first time this morning. after parking it I hear a lot of pops comming from underneath. I asume the first heat cycle or so?
