Thanks, I know when building a short block cyinders are mic. & honed, crank is mic. rod and main bearing and piston clearance determined. Also ring gap checked. This is done even using all new parts. Now what else does a machine shop do or check in building a forged short block? Again, thanks to all who responded. Frank

Usually it's a great idea to align hone the block for the crankshaft, as well as set the desired end play for the crank. The assembly should be balanced with whatever kind of drive unit, flex plate or clutch. They should install and clearance the cam bearings and set the proper cam end play. If building a stroked engine, you should check for cam clearance and rod to block clearance. Very important to get ALL the clearances correct. If a higher compresion is desired, the deck should be shaved, or at least it should have a new surface on it. Hope this helps.

Thanks! I was thinking they may prep the crank, rods and block a special way. Frank

You will also more then likely need to modify the oil pan to clear the rods. I know I did. Took about three hours to grind it down. You will also possibly need to shim the windage tray too.

Good Luck
