Default Need a screw part # please. PIC INSIDE

It is on the rear part of the door jamb and holds this trim piece to the body on a convertible. The hardtop MAY or may not be the same, I am not sure.

Thanks
Dave

It looks like 10180421, It is hard to tell on the exploded view in the parts manual.

It won't be in the Service Manual, it is in the Parts Manual. I think it is part number 16751144 - (Part 49) described as a "round head Torx screw - black" as the fastner for the "Door Opening Finish Panel"

NOTE - That part number is superceded by part number 11609406 <--- use this # to order

It is shown on page 7-E7 in the 1997-2002 Parts Manual (Adobe Reader page count is page 1155 of 1348).

screw991le is right, it is VERY difficult to tell from the exploded parts picture which one it is.

I can't send you a copy of the page as the copy I have does not allow pages to be copied from it. If you want a copy of the manual (Warning - it is over 120MB in size - don't do this over dial-up ... ) you can get a copy from this site ....

http://www.davidfarmerstuff.com/

Scroll down, it is almost at the bottom of the page, and is called "C5 OEM Parts List". RIGHT click on the name and from the pop-up box select "Save Target As...." and then choose where you want it on your system. You will need Adobe Reader to open it.

thanks, i downloaded that. After looking at that diagram some I don't think that is the correct part . That looks to be the screw that holds the body panels together right there.

Often the parts manual only shows one fastener for a trim panel, while there may be more than one in the panel. I believe they do this to minimze confusion, as some panels have many fasteners that are the same. The "exploded" parts drawings would be almost impossible to read if they showed EVERY single part in the car ... where there are duplicates they tend to show only one.

At this point, you only have a few choices ....

1) take the part numbers you've been given into a dealer and see if they fit. A few screws are not gonna set you back a whole lot of money ....

2) go to the parts dept. of your dealer, show them the picture, and see what part they think it is ...

3) continue to search the catalog until you are certain you have the right part (then test the part number, some part numbers get "superceded" by going to an on-line parts vendor to see if the part number is still valid).

Best of luck,

If I had a part # I could go to the dealer or a supporting vendor and order it. the part is a unique screw in that it is a curved button head w/ a hex drive. It isn't the same as the other panels in that area of the car.

Ok, I am confused. Are you asking for the door striker screw or the weather stripping screw?

It is a Torx drive, not hex, most likely. If you go to the dealer and ask for the part number I gave you above I doubt they will have to order it, as screws like that are a "standard item" in their inventory. They use them all the time. The part guy should be able to ...

a) show you the screw

b) look it up on his system if you still think it is the wrong one

For what they will charge for a screw .... just go to the dealership .... they screw everyone anyway ....
