I just installed drilled/slotted rotors and pads on my Z. I'm getting a loud squeak from the front right wheel when I brake and when I make left turns. So, I took it into Firestone to see if they could identify the problem and it turns out they think I need some hardware that was suppose to come with the pads. The pads I installed didn't come with any hardware. When buying pads are they suppose to come with hardware? I cleaned the rotor twice and applied the lubricant on the metal part of the pad. What else can I do?
What pads did you buy ??? The GM pad kits come with replacement copper shims and springs. Most 3rd party pad sets don't come with the shims/springs. With third party pads re-use the copper parts that were originally in the calipers. Most time they don't really need replacement .... just re-use them.
semi-metallic pads. I didn't see any copper shims or springs in the calipers.
Semi-metallic pads doesn't answer the question .... Hawk HPS pads ?? Raybestos .... Porterfield .... ??? the reason I ask is some "high performance" pads, such as the Hawk HP Plus or Hawk Blues will naturally squeal when cold. Other pads, such as the GM Z06 pads might make some noise, but rarely squeal.
Without the copper hardware, any pad is more likely to squeal. If you have any buddies in the area, see if they have a spare set of the shims/springs left over from previous brake work. The copper parts are not available as an orderable part. You will need to order a set of GM front pads to get the parts. Third party vendors such as Hawk and Porterfield don't supply them. Without them you will have squealing.

I agree but that doesn't guarantee that they won't squeal. If you're not tracking the car and you just drive it on the street, just replacing with a ceramic street pad will probably cure the problem. Usually the high performance pads squeal. Some do, some don't. If it bugs you, just try another set. You can swap them out in a half hour.
