I'm trying to decide on my wheel and tire combo for strip use only. The choices I'm looking at are the CCW drag pack or moving up to the 345 drag radials on a 12" or 13" wheel.
The things that concern me about the 345 tires are the added weight and the extra abuse to the drive train. But since I've got the tubs in it would seem logical to fit a larger tire in there.
On the other hand;
The drag pack seems to work well for most people and should be a little lighter but it really wasn't designed to fit the C5. I know they will bolt on but I'm not real keen on the idea of having to take a hammer to my car to get the clearance for them. I know it's just some minor clearancing required. It seems a little strange to worry about that when I think about all of the modifications I made to fit the turbos and mini tub kit.
Any advice to offer?
Go with the CCW drag package. There is a reason everyone uses them, they simply work. The clearancing is a few swings of the hammer to dimple in the grease cap, no grinding required. Very minor especially compared to a mini-tub. The drag pkg will be faster than the drag radials as well.
So what is the actual advantage of the drag pack. I've heard lighter weight and a little less shock to the drive train with the sidewall design of the bias tires.
