This past weekend I went to lower the front of my '98 and noticed that the rubber bushings under the threaded bolt that you turn to lower the car were smushed. The right front was still under the bolt, but the left front was completely out from under the bolt and barely attached. Has anyone had this problem and what could have caused it. I bought the car about a month ago, I'm not the original owner. The car drives fine. :chevy
I realy don't think normal ware and tear wolud be the cause of the rubber bushing coming loose from the adjusting bole, but I could be wrong. I would think that it came loose because the former owner tried to lower the front without releaving the spring pressure on the lower "A" arm.
There is a lot of pressure on this bolt with the suspension in the normal position ( about 800 or 900 pounds). To properly turn this bolt you should releave this pressure by supporting the weight of the car with jack stands under each end of the spring between the lower "A" arm attach points, or use a special tool that artifically raises the spring and removes the pressure on the lower "A" arm.
I suggest you chech the ride height to see if tha left and the right sides are equal. I think you'll find that they are different if one bushing is almost completely off. Hope this helps. :D :D
