Default column lock

service column lock message came up on my dash. is that something easy to do or does it need to go to the dealership for service? its on a 99.

Before you freak out, try your second key. Also read the link that 8VETTE7 posted. It has absolutely all of the info.

You might also want to read this sticky on column lock. It deals with the 3rd recall.

I had column lock on my 99 FRC. Took it to the dealer and had them do this fix. It is a permanent solution because they removed the pin from the locking plate so that the column can never ever lock again. If they do it right you will know because even with key out of car you can turn the steering wheel.

Personally, I believe it is the best way to go.
