i have a problem with the horn on my 98. it seems to work when it wants to. now it has completely stopped. the horn sounds when the alarm is set. anybody have any ideas? thanks
I would guess the switch inside the steering wheel is bad. Usually how it works is the horn is grounded through the steering column. When you push in the horn (button, switch, whatever you wanna call it) it completes the circuit and sounds the horn. I'd bet if you take it apart you'll be able to fix it, but the airbag will make it a PITA.
Mine did the same thing and while Andy at A&A was doing the supercharger I asked him about it. He said contacts under air bag could be bad. When I picked up car he said they found that one of the wires under the air bag for the horn had came loose. Clipped it back on, end of problem. Hope this helps. If you do it yourself, be sure and take out the air bag fuse.
I had the same issue with my '01 coupe - ended up being a bad turn signal cancel cam - dealer did diagnosis and repair.
that shouldn't affect the horn. Its in the same general area but I dont see how that would make your horn stop working. I have a hard time trusting stealerships I call
did some troubleshooting with the service manuals and found it to be a bad fuse. it was not blown, but the contacts were bad. sure beat buying a new switch and messing with the airbag.
