I just recently bought a used 1999 chevy corvette and the remote has never worked. I have tried pressing unlock and lock at the same time. it works for about a minute then the doors lock and it stops working. I tried per instructions in the manuel to match transmitters, again works for about a minute then stops working. I tried replacing the battery and it still does not work. Do I need to replace the remote or will this not help. maybe the problem is in the car? I was thinking about taking it to the chevy garage but its 50 bucks just to look at it but they might just tell me I need a new transmitter. Does anybody have any answeres I would appreciate it. If I am not mistaken, the factory service manual has a prodedure for coordinating the unit to the car. I think you have to go through that procedure. It involves using the digital display on the dash. I watched my dealer do mine. You can do it if you get the procedure from the service manual.
The remotes have a tendency to simply stop working after some period of time for unknown reasons. Usually its due to being dropped but whatever the reason, just replace it. Gene Culley has a good price on them at www.gmpartshouse.com

Look at page 2-12 in your 1999 Owner's Manual, it shows the procedure for "matching" the fobs to the car. If you don't have the Owner's Manual, go here for an electronic copy of it .....
If the fobs continue to go unrecognized after a short time, they will most likely need replacement. Check the batteries are good (just because they are "new" doesn't mean they were good .... they could have been sitting in the store for a year or two before you bought them).

Good luck,
I would also like to add that care must be used when replacing the power cell (battery) to keep finger prints (sweat, oils) off the cell.
Before placing the new cell in its bracket, clean the bracket with alcohol.
Also clean the contact finger(s) and circuit board contact area.
Do not flood the parts with alcohol - only dampen a piece of paper towel, Q-tip, etc.
