Just wondering does anybody use the B&M short throw shifter? I just received one as a gift, not sure if I'm going to use it. I wanted to see what you guys thought.
Are you referring to the B&M "Ripper" or the "Sport"? The former is a solid lever and the latter has a vibration reducing lever similar to oem.
I resisted changing my (Z16) shifter for almost a year. It never bothered me like it does some owners.
I finally installed a B&M "Sport" to avoid the complaints about vibrations. I like it. The throws are shorter (33% ?) and there are absolutely no vibrations or annoying sounds. I like it.
FYI...changing out the oem square **** to an after market offering, shortening the oem shifter lever by 3/4", and/or trying the washer modification to the shift detent bolt on transmission are options to improving the "feel" of the oem shifter.

The members that have the "Ripper" seem to either highly recommend them for their positive "feel" or dislike them for the vibrations.
Shifters are very subjective...like I mentioned, I never had any problems with the oem C5/Z06 shifter, but it was modified as I also commented.
Try it and see if you like it, if not, there's always a willing market in the classified ads. People seem to like the C6/Z06 shifter lately, but some change shifters like they change fuel in the tanks. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1937228

I currently have the C6/Z06 shifter **** on my stock shifter. I really like the way the shifter feels. I never had any intentions on changing the shifter until I got this one. I do remember a few years back, I had a 1989 Mustang GT with the ripper shifter and it rattled like hell at high RPMS
I guess I'll just sell it. HotWheels57 thanks for your help.
Im running the ripper..the definately NOT OEM replacement...
Love it..but it is VERY diffrent from teh stock shifting dynamics...
Withte stock you just sory of ....glided into gear...with the K&N you've got to PUT it into gear...very positive shifting...switch ***** fro a stocker to a derilin race model....you're gonna love life
I have the B&M Sport shifter and I like it,very precise. Don't use the hard bushings that they supply with the shifter because they are the cause of noise and vibrations. Just leave the originals in place. The B&M manual mentions about the bushings.
I had the ripper, way to hard to move side-to-side. i had the the 08 z06 shifter-feels like rubber-maid and the shift throws are way to long. ill be trying the mcw shifter next
I have the B&M Ripper in my car with a C6 shift ****. It looks, feels and shifts great. The shorter throws are fantastic, especially in competition. I love the fact that it takes a little push and pull elbow grease. Feels like a mans car with this shifter. The original shifter was a little too smooth and retirement like.
Mine came with a Ripper, I liked it "stock" but it was a bit too much effort for my wife. I aligned it, cut 2 loops off the side springs and shimmed out the detent bolt. I consider it perfect now… I also put a stock **** back on it…

ok i have the b&m shifter with the black shaft, wich one do i have because this thing rattles like crazy in the higher rpms
If yours is making noises, you might need to inspect the bushings, change the **** or do a general inspection of all fasteners. If the stops are still in place, you might need to either remove them entirely (not needed in a T56) or adjust them for more gap from the lever.
B&M RACING "Sport" ...#45044
B&M RACING "Ripper"...#45057

That is what people refer to as the "Ripper". As you can see in comparing your image with that I posted, the B&M website shows a bump (for the boot retention) in the lever.
It's hard to tell in your image if your shifter has C6/Z06 drilled/tapped hole below the threads. That would enable one to use the same shifter on a C6/Z06 with the more ergonomic C6/Z06 **** or on a C5/Z06 with the ergonomic ****.
I can't tell from your image if B&M still provides shift stops with that model. My "Sport" shifter does not have provisions for them.
Yours may be the original version of the "Ripper".
You should have no trouble selling it if that's what you decide to do. It is still a very popular shifter.
