Default My Dropped Wrench

I want to thank everyone for their suggestions. I have given up on this project. There is a area in the upper right hand corner of the battery compartment where I am pretty sure the wrench went. There is a opening there that is the dark hole. I have put a 18 inch thin magnet down there and even tried my hand. By removing the battery and battery tray still don't give you access to that area. Even if you pull the access panel you can't get to that area. Its located right below the battery tray's upper right hand corner and straight down. There are so many places that could have fallen where I could have got it pretty easy it went down there. I am usually so carefull but this was one of my brain dead moments. I doubt it can do any harm down there and it don't rattle so thats it. The access panel gives you room under the tray and that area but no idea how to get in the black hole.

Same thing happenned to me, used a pole magnet and got it out after a few minutes of poking around, I was a little worried about using a magnet around the computer but I guess I was lucky, good luck.

I would try removing the bottom bolt to the fender... Hopefully it will fall right out... Good luck:

You definitely want to get it out of there. Have you tried jacking the car up and going at it from underneathe the car? I dropped a socket under the baterry compartment my self on two seperate occaisions. I remmeber using a magnet on an extension and fishing it out. I had to bend the extension in order to access the area below the battery.

its very simple just remove the battery then the battery tray, both use a 13mm socket. then blam your whole arm will fit past that and you can reach around in there, i do it alll the time lol. its usually my 13mm socket that falls and luckly i have another so i can keep removing stuff to get to it LOL

Well....it seems that 90% of the responses you received encouraged you to find the lost tool; however, you have chosen to disregard the advice. Good luck

Hi george's2001c5 -

I have dropped hold down bolts etc down into that black hole -

Kneel beside the car and while fishing with your magnetic pickup tool, bump the underside of the rear portion of the front fender with your fist - you will feel the wrench or bolt etc bouncing around in there.

Eventually you will get hold of the wrench (if it is ferrous that is).

Actually, the first time I did this, I pulled out the whole battery tray and you can reach around in there when the tray and underlying bracket are removed -

best regards -

After I noticed a battery leak and was cleaning up the acid spill I wanted to clean and repaint the frame members that were rusting from the acid. There are couple of screws holding the fender to the frame behind the wheel and under the body. Remove them and the fender will pull back allowing access to the "black hole."

I lost a couple of spark plugs, a socket or two, and a couple of bolts under the motor in the K-member cavity on my Z28- and the stuff is still there! I haven't lost anything under the hood of my vette yet.

You could also try removing the wheel and then removing the inner fender well. It's just held in with a few bolts. That will give you additional access to that area.

dude, I lost my socket down there umptine times changing battery in one night... I removed 3 10mm bolts, bent the plastic down under the car and dug around with my not small hands (6'3 225pounds) and found it everytime..

I'd get it out, but hey, if you want it to rattle about in there, that's your car
