Default Oil Pressure Gage

Ok, here is the story. I had problems with my harmonic balancer, Thanks to all of you guys, I was able to change it and the work went smoothly. However, after driving the car for a week I just noticed that my oil pressure gage is reading 80 I am not sure if I damaged something while changing the harmonic balancer or what? I know for a fact that the gage was reading the correct oil pressure two weeks ago. so, once again I come to the best people for help with my dear Vette. Thank you..

Sounds like the oil pressure sensor. Very common problem and the following link has more info on then you can imagine.

Good luck,

Easy way to check your sensor. Turn key to ON but do not start the eng. If it shows pressure with eng dead you can bet on a bad sensor.

Yes, the gage reads 80 when ignition is ON and engine not running. Once again you guys are the best! I thank you for all the great help. any suggestions as to where can I buy the sensor? or is this a dealer only part?

You can buy them at the dealer or any parts store. They seem to all be made at the same factory. Very high failure rate. I read one post where it failed on the test drive.

Some relocate and use a Buick sensor. I torqued mine to 12 instead of 15 ft lbs and cleaned the connector real good. It's been 5k miles so far but it may fail next week.
