To anyone who has used Dynamat (spelling?) or any other sound insulation product. I am interested in noise reduction results. My main concern is rear tire noise (2001 coupe), it's not bad but could be better. Rear tire noise is the only thing I hear above all the other subtle highway sound level. Have you had a noticeable reduction is tire noise?? What product?? How much did you insulate - rear cargo area, tunnel also??
Thanks for any input.
I had 3 sheets of dynamat (not sure which version, there are different materials) installed when my roll bar went in. They did the rear deck almost entirely. It cut done the noise "somewhat". If they were not already back there ripping out everything I don't think it would have been worth the trouble.
There is another company called Cascade Audio engineering that makes sound suppresant materials. check out http://www.cascadeaudio.com/
Are you using run flats. Getting rid of those will cut down tire noise substantially.
Barry: I used a product by Cascade called VB-2. It was easy to install (I did the entire interior) and did reduce unwanted sound. I think the cost was about the same. It even cut down on the console heat problem. Good luck. :)
Re: Question on Dynamat Sound Insulation (SilverStar)
We put two layers of Dynamat Super and the dynaliner (foam stuff) in my buddy's 98 Z51 coupe....helped somewhat, but not NEARLY as much as the switch to Firestone SZ50 EP's.....much quieter than the GY's.
I agree with Silver Star....lose the Goodyears first, if you're annoyed by road noise.
I think it is worth doing. I can still remember driving my car home from the Dealer last Feb. All I could hear was rear tires and sand hitting the wheel well liners. It's better now.
Re: Question on Dynamat Sound Insulation (00c5coupe)
I also purchased the rear cargo mat (carpet) for my coupe and this assisted in reducing noise levels.
This was in adddition to placing dynomat all along the center console tunnel when I installed my ripper. This really assisted in also reducing heat levels in that area.
I did the back half of my Firehawk in Extreme(36ft2) and used Extreme Liner (24ft2) in a few select areas and I don't think the $500 was worth much of a noise reduction. (or my labor effort).
