Recurring PS Pump Problems
I have an 04 coupe with about 16K miles and I participate in about 12-15 HPDE events a year. During the last event of the 2006 season, the power-steering pump began leaking. I had it repaired at the Chevy dealership (under warranty) where I bought the car. The new pump began leaking within 1000 miles. I subsequently had pump #3 installed at another shop, and was told that this is common problem due to a design flaw in the PS pump. Unfortunately, pump #3 began leaking after about 2000 miles. Before I take the car in to the shop again, I’d like to find out: 1) Is it true that the PS pump is a common problem? 2) Does anyone have suggestions on how this recurring problem can be fixed permanently?

I was just reading about this problem earlier, apparently GM has experienced a problem with shafts that are not true and it's causing premature leaks on the PS pump.
