Looking For The Post About 97/98 Computer Conversion??
I am not able to locate the post I saw a few days ago about a computer conversion. The conversion was for a 97/98 Vette to use a later style computer. Can anybody tell me were it is?
I am not sure if I read it in the C5 Tech or the C5 parts for sale area. I did scroll through pages and pages and pages of threads. My eyes are crossed now.

I am looking yo have ECS do the work. My Vette has been tuned for speed density. I know from speaking to many tuners that the 97 and 98 Vettes are more of a challenge then the 99 and up. I am also wonder if anyone has made the change to a 97 or 98 that has had engine work done? Also if it has helped them? then the big question is, How much is this kit? I will be making the phone calls tomm. I will give an update on my findings.
I thank everyone for there help.
I am a serious bracket racer and I am looking to be even more competitive with my new make over for my Pace Car. I am thinking that I should look into this upgrade to see if this will help me in any way. I have also heard that this upgrade would be more of a benefit to a power added engine.
Again thanks, and I will post my results and what I find out with all the phone calls.

The new PCM from a GMC truck is going to run you about $125 shipped. You will nedd a new PCM bracket as the two computers are physically different. The bracket lists for $24 at the local dealer. Several shops I've priced it out at want between $250 and $350 labor. Not sure if VATS or other additional programming is required. The point of the swap is for better tuning ability so factor in the price of a retune on top of everything.
The benefits are in the ease of tuning and greater familiarity tuners will have with programming a 99+ PCM versus the 97-98 PCM's. In addition datalogging is much more effective and real time adjustments available. The dual VE tables in the older computers can be a real pain when FI or H/C/I work are done. If you're car is mainly bolt ons the cost may be prohibitive.
No way would I attempt to install a 1999 & PCM into a 1998. Hp Tuners support the 1997 & 1998 PCMs. There is a 2 bar SD OS available for the 1998 PCM's.
There is no power to be gained by installing a newer pcm. As far as real time tuning, I've tuned with & without it, but if you know how to tune properly, changing up the pcm will cause more trouble than gains.
Hey Rob,I just did that swap,02 pcm in my 97 C5.Its not as hard as it looks.Since I have EFILive it was pretty easy to work the bugs out.I did it mostly because I was having problems with the rev limiter with the 97pcm................Paul
