I have a 1998 Vett. I bought it used with just 6000 mi on it back in 1999.so I've had it for a while. In that time I've had a couple small problems, but thanks to all of you in forum they have stayed small.I only have 30,000 mi on it now.I know thats not a lot but I would like to change the antifreeze just because its ten years old.I am a maint.man by trade, but I've never changed antifreeze on a newer car before, so I would like to know how to do this before I start. Thanks.

Hey Bill, Congrats on your '98 Vette & Welcome to the Corvette Forum!
You might want to post your question on changing the antifreeze in the "C5 Tech" section of our forum - our knowledgeable members there will be glad to help you.
Change it NOW. Flush iit well. Plain water till it runs clear. NO CORROSIVE FLUSH ADDITIVE. Search on dexcool and you will see MANY problems on here. BIGHANK

Yep, it's time to change it alright. It's about 5 years past due.

In C5 Tech, click on search this forum (in the red banner) using keywords "antifreeze" or similar. You'll find plenty to read.
Many elect to continue to use oem type DEXCOOL (or similar orange extended life products) for it's friendliness to aluminum (and the environment, animals, etc). Past issues with it were related to poorly maintained coolant systems, gaskets and GM added tablets...since improved upon by GM.
If you chose to switch to green, you'll have to make more frequent annual changes.
It's your car to do with as you please.
BTW, I found this which might be helpful to you... http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...ght=antifreeze

Anti-Freeze should be changed every 5 years. I took my 2000 to a dealer who chemically flushed the system and refilled. I know this is an expensive route but it gave me peace of mind.
I put the gold stuff from AMS Oil in the vette last year. My car is an
'01 Z that I bought in Oct of '06. I was not sure how old the coolant
was. When I tested the old coolant it was still good. I decided to
change it anyway. The AMS Oil stuff says it is good for 7 years and is
environmentaly freindly. Good luck!
