Default got a bouncing tach

I have a bouncing tach. Could it be a ground? where would it be if it was.

The IPC has a single ground ... so all of your gauges would "bounce" together if the ground was bad.

The IPC receives the engine speed signal on a white wire (circuit 121) which is pin A17 on the wiring connector to the IPC.

Does your car have a HUD ... If so, is the tach dispaly on that correct ?? If itt is then your IPC needs to be serviced as the tach is bad.

Thank's for the input. 01 z06 so no HUD, and it is bouncing independent. it is works normal most the of the time, then it will take a couple of hops. engine stays smooth.

Could it be an alternator going bad?

I know it is not the same vehicle but when a bouncing tach occurs in a Land Rover DII it usually means that the alternator is not performing 100% as is on it's way out.

Interesting, I had/have this concern sometimes at the track. As the car rev's quickly in 1st gear it bounces a little on the way up then its fine.
