I'd want to know the history before I bought a used gearset, but that's because I've been burned before.
For one in good condition with 70k, I'd pay around $350.
Is there a BIG performance gain? There is a great SOTP gain, but at the track you should see consistant .1-.2 et gains. Add a high stall while your at it and that jumps up to .5-.8 gain.

Do a search for Cajundude and Mike Mercury. They both have writeups on the swap. It is possible to do on jackstands in your garage, but you have to know what your doing and take your time.
You will need a computer reprogram to update the shift points.
It will hurt gas milage, all depends on driving style. Highway driving milage will be affecteted the most.
I put a set of new 3:42s in my vert and went from 31 to 27 on the road. You should be able to find a diff with a lot less miles for $500 or under. Z06 guys pull them out for 3:90s or 4:10s. Check parts for sale here on the forum. As posted above, get a tune to set shift points, tranny pressure and shift time.
