Default 12 CD Changer Problem

I tried to play a CD that was recorded at my local stereo shop to see if it would work. It didn't and ERR appeared in the display. I tried it in different positions in the magazine with no success. Is there a fix for this or am I stuck with prerecorded CDs. If fixable can this be done at the local dealership? Thank you all very much. Rad

There are quite a few variables to consider when burning CD's such as burn speed, media, CDR used, CD authording/recording software, and burn method used.

When burning an audio CD I would recommend the following to insure compatiblity with most CD audio players out there.

Use a good Internal IDE or SCSI CD Burner by HP.
Burn the audio CD's at slow speed - 1x or 2x
Use good media such as Kodak Gold Ultima or Verbatim
Don't exceed 650Mb/74min
Use Adaptec EZ CD Creator 5.0
Burn the CD in DOA mode (disc-at-once)

This may take a little experimenting on your part and you can find what works for you, then may try faster burning speeds. I have a 1999 12-disc changer and it does play CD's I have burned.

I have no problems playing homemade CD's in my 12 disk changer.
I'm using Memorex 74min 650Mb CD's
I burn them at 8x using "disk at once" and "finalize" the CD.

I also use CD-Rs in my 12 disc changer with no problem. Is this by any chance a CD/RW? Those can be a problem even for many home CD players/changers. CD/RW uses a different method of recording the information than CD-R. That's because the CD/RW is re-recordable and the CD-R isn't.

Just my $.02

I had a similar problem with the changer in my car. Almost all of my problems went away after I switched to audio cd's instead of that standard data cd's I had on hand. Although I've recorded some at 16x that work fine, I usually slow things down to 8x to be safe.

I've used a couple different brands of CD-R with no problems. So far so good.

Use silver CD instead of blue.

I have some I made at 8X and I get some static and other times they work well. Not sure why. I even recorded some at 24X and they work. This was MP3 to WAV conversion then create a Audio CD

Ditto here! I use the "Easy CD Creator" that came with my Dell, and burn them at 16X. Most I snagged from "Limewire.com" . In one way they sound better, because I can adjust an equalizer on the computer, and the burned disks have a punchier sound.
