I am looking to upgrade the scanner I use. I currently have an autoxray that can be upgraded to pull more sensor data, but instead of spending the $50 to upgrade, I wanted to check what other options are out there.
I am mainly focused on GM vechiles but it would be nice to cover other makes. I know Tech 2 is the most comprehensive, but is there an option that is close for less money?
The features that are important to me are below
- Access to live sensor data (Engine, ABS, Transmission, etc)
-OBD-II and CAN support
-No annual subscription fee
Some names of scanners that I have seen are AutoEnginuity, OTC Genysis, EFI Live, HP Tunner.
Can anyone provide details to the one that will access the most sensors?
I checked their site and see that they charge for upgrades beyond the first 12 months for the enhanced codes.
Is this the scanner that you use? Any thoughts on the upgrading cost?

I have been looking for a while. This one seems to offer the best selection of capabilities although you will need to pop for a PC or PDA to use the software. Their web page indicates updates are $50 a year after one year. Probably not too bad. Not many on the market at this price that provide code reading and command abilities. Probably can do a lot of the functions a Tech 2 performs.
The only thing I recall paying for is the Ford Module when I needed it (bought the GM first). I also had to pay for a replacement connector-my original one got a little flaky connecting after a few years.
If you look at the list of things it can do and the bi-directional communication capability-it's the best bang for the buck. You can also use it for graphing and performance testing. If you have a laptop or PDA it's really nice.
