Default Weird heating problem - help!!

I have a 98 Coupe, when it is cold outside normally you would set the temperature to around 72. When the car is on for a minute or so the temperature on the heat is as if the setting was set to full 90. If you turn it down to 63 then you will get mild air. As the car warms up after 15-20 minutes then you can slowly start to increase the temperature. Also I don't think the ducts are working properly, when I set it to air up to the windows there is still air coming out from the front ducts, don't know if that is normal. Any help or ideas would be appreciated..

Yes! It is your MODE ACTUATOR that is bad!

If you check your codes you'll see under the HVAC section you will have some B0441 codes and perhaps others.

The actuator is getting stuck, it is the same problem I have and one day I'll replace it.

But what you can do is reset it by pulling the fuse under the passenger side floor board and clear the codes on the PCM.

This will reset it and put it in the center - so to speak!

The air will come out of all the vents equally and it will also enable you to use the temp setting again.

Sometimes it can get stuck Hot on drivers side and Cold on the passengers but it happens.

I have the three volume repair manual that explains how to fix it but it will come later when I got more time to do it.

Pull the codes and let us know what they read!

Thanks,Matt
